Governors at Fulford
We have a very knowledgeable and committed governing board which comprises Parents, Staff, Community and Local Authority Representatives. Our governing Board is constituted under the School Governance (Constitution) Regulations 2012.
Governors play an important strategic role in school development, and also have many statutory duties.
Governors responsibilities include:
- setting the vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school
- monitoring pupil’s levels of progress and attainment
- ensuring that the National Curriculum is delivered to all pupils
- staff appointments and staff performance
- safeguarding and the maintenance, safety and security of the school site
- control of the school budget and making sure money is well spent
The Governors’ main priority at all times is the well-being of the children. Governors take an active interest in the daily life of the school in a supportive but challenging capacity. Governors, staff and pupils all enjoy working together, developing and improving our school in line with our joint vision.
Structure and Remit
The Governors work in 5 main committees that meet at least termly. The focus is achieving our strategic aims.

The purpose of the committee is to focus on the long term vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school taking account of national priorities, local aspirations and parent and pupil voice.
- Provision Standards and Achievements (PS&A)
The purpose of the committee is to monitor, through internal and external data analysis and dialogue with the leadership team, the progress and attainment of all children across the school. Also the committee will review other key metrics such as quality of teaching, behaviour and attendance. The committee will keep provision under review ensure that the appropriate support in place for the benefit of the children.
- Finance and Resources
The purpose of the committee is to fulfil the core strategic function of overseeing the financial performance of the school. Ensuring its money is well spent and focussed on the achievement and well-being of all pupils.
- Special Educational Needs and Safeguarding
The purpose of the committee is to ensure that the school meets all its statutory duties in safeguarding every child, member of staff and family and that all safeguarding requirements are in place and up to date. It focussed on ensuring outstanding provision is in place for disadvantaged children.
- Staffing and Performance Management
The purpose of the committee is to consider the schools pay and appraisal policies to ensure compliance and that we develop a motivated, high performing staff where standards are high, success is rewarded and there is an appropriate work-life balance. Key focus areas are recruitment, performance and well-being.
