Welcome to Reception Class 1

Hello, my name is Mrs Thornley and I am the Reception (Class 1) teacher. I have been teaching for 6 years and have spent all of these in the Reception class at Fulford. I am responsible for the Early Years Foundation Stage and I love working with the younger children and aim to spark an enthusiasm for learning that they can take with them through the rest of their education. This often involves making learning real through exciting trips and outings. Some of my favourite trips have been to Cadbury World, the Snowdome, sitting in an aeroplane cockpit at Manchester airport and our day at the seaside.

As well as trips, I get very excited about maths and through my role as maths coordinator, strive to ignite a passion for maths in as many children as possible and equip them all with children having a positive, ‘can do’ attitude towards maths and problem solving.

I am very lucky to work with some fantastic teaching assistants in Class 1 and I feel this quotation sums up the ethos of our classroom.
